Nutrition intake before exercise
Consuming food and fluid before exercise should be seen as an opportunity to fine-tune carbohydrate fluid and electrolyte levels to ensure you feel comfortable and confident before a training session or competitive event.
Food and fluid consumed before exercise is only useful once it has been digested and absorbed. This means you need to time your food intake so that the fuel becomes available during the exercise period.
A general guide is to have a light pre-workout snack or fluids such as carbohydrate rich beverage about 1 hour to 30 minutes beforehand. You need to experiment to find the timing, amount and make up that best suits your individual needs.
